...sometimes even a single feather is enough to fly. (Robert Maclean)

Little Dominique

aka
 'Dommie'
   'Dom Dom'
 'Ma Dame'

We loved you from the moment
we heard your first little chirps at the post office!

You came into the world with a frail little body
but such a spunky spirit!

We loved watching your feathers come in
as you grew from a little fuzzy chick...

to a gawky teenager

and so quickly into such a beautiful hen...

Look at those feathers!

It was so nice that you always stopped to say Hello when we came to visit.

And sometimes you thought my arms
were tree branches,
but I didn't mind one bit.

I liked being your tree.

Sometimes I was your jungle gym, too.
That always made me smile.

You laid us the most delicious little eggs.
They usually had specks and flecks on them,
so I knew they were yours.

You sure loved to eat!
You wanted to be the fattest, sassiest chicken on the block...

But the first summer, you were too sassy for your own good...
Your voracious appetite and your mountains of moxie got you into trouble with the bigger girls
and you lost a few feathers while you were learning those lessons
about how to get along in a flock...

But you were always my special girl, no matter what.

Sometimes you played hide-and-seek, or hard to get.
But eventually you let me scoop you up and catch you.

 Even sassy little hens
secretly like to snuggle until they fall asleep.

All girls need their beauty rest, right?

And sick little hens need the ultimate 'rest and relaxation' package,
which is a trip indoors aka a "Florida winter vacation!"

You really lived it up in your last two weeks!

When you weren't in your playpen, with the all-you-could-eat buffet and heated bed,
you loved to look out the window at the wild birds,
making all of your little sounds.

You always had something to say about everything!

Sassy right up to the very end.

--------

bok bok bok bok bok

Goodbye, Little Friend.
